Opportunities to get involved

TROPHI is offering a range of opportunities for primary care professionals working in outer eastern Melbourne to develop skills in research translation. You don’t need to be a researcher to apply. Eligibility for each grant is outlined below. We encourage, GPs, Practice Managers, GP registrars, other primary health care professionals and medical students to consider applying.

Mentoring program

TROPHI Mentoring Program is open for its second intake. This program is for GPs, general practice staff, and primary health workers in the outer Eastern Melbourne regions of Knox, Maroondah, and Yarra Ranges. You will build connections with experienced mentors and grow your research translation skills.

Research development bursaries

$1000 to support access to education aligned with TROPHI regional needs, or aimed at building capacity for involvement in research, translation or education– aimed at primary care/general practice professionals, including GP registrars and medical students. These bursaries are open to primary care/general practice professionals, including GP registrars and medical students and can be used to support your access to education aligned with TROPHI regional needs, or increasing your skills in research, translation or education.

$5000 for junior GP registrars and trainees from other primary care disciplines to support training or research involvement. This funding could cover the costs of professional development aimed at building capacity for involvement in research, translation or education, or it could go towards the costs associated with an appropriately supervised research activity.

Masters and PhD bursaries

$10,000 for GPs, GP Registrars, Practice Managers, Practice nurses, cultural mentors, Aboriginal Health Workers, allied health and non-clinical primary care staff will be enrolled MSc or PhD students or those considering enrolling in a MSc/PhD program within either the Department of General Practice at Monash University or the University of Melbourne. The research is required to be oriented to the needs of TROPHI’s region and/or conducted in collaboration with one of TROPHI’s partner organisations (these include RACGP, University of Melbourne, Monash University, Eastern Melbourne PHN, Eastern Health).

Bursaries can be used towards supporting research and professional development costs. Costs could be related to education enrolment/registration fees for conferences, accommodation and travel (within Australia only). In exceptional circumstances, and with approval from the TROPHI Management, costs may include attending and travel to relevant international conferences. A separate application (including proposed budget for use of the funds) will be required.

Seed funding for practice-based pilots

$10,000 funding for GPs, general practice staff, or primary health workers who are interested in completing a supported, practice-based research project. Intended to support the conduct of practice-based research which addresses a research question aligned with a regional need. The project should focus on bringing research into practice. For funding recipients, support will be provided from respective Departments of General Practice, and TROPHI’s affiliated PBRNs.

Research translation fellowships

Research Translation Fellowships are open to GPs, general practice staff, or primary health workers. Fellows will receive funding to work one day per week over a 12-month period on a research translation project, which meets a regional need. You will be supported by experienced supervisors to complete a project that focuses on translating evidence into practice.
